Bill,

Some of the things you would want to check is what is the kind of locking thats happening against these tables...

Are they using rowhash level write locks (Table level write locks can be a real pain in these scenarios)... Do they use access locks for reading ? Have you noticed any deadlocks happening in the system ?

Also you would want to explore the batcharray/Fastload features of JDBC which gives higher performance, if that's possible in your case...
