Subj:   Join Index Question

From:   Kamin Shah

I have a query which is taking over 5 minutes. I have written 2 join indexes which I think would cover the query. When I look at the explain plan it just picks up one of the 2 join indices. When I drop one of them, it picks up the other one. I have collected the appropriate stats and have made sure the PI is appropriate.

The questions I have are the following:

1. Does Teradata use only 1 join index which it think will best cover the query or can it choose multiple join indices?

2. When I have both the indices present, it picks up the slower one for some reason. Any insight on this?

Any help is appreciated.
