This is a general question about implementation of a Teradata Warehouse. We have a bunch of flat files which come through and we load them into tables (In Teradata) as they came - the tables are exactly the same as the flat file ( am going to call these source tables). From then on, we are planning to transform and load into our warehouse base models.

A lot of shops use ETL tools to do the transform and load from the source tables into the warehouse base tables and a lot of shops use just Teradata utilities, SQL and Stored Procs to achieve this. Can someone please comment on these 2 approaches and the advantages and disadvantages of these both approaches?
