The database in question was the database containing the table, not DBC.

The delete statement was a simple

Delete from Table where column in (x , y, ...) ;

What a mystery. Did you check whether there were any triggers defined on that table? If each DELETE triggers some INSERT then we would have an explanation. Just a thought.
