I understand your concern with how USING SAMPLE works today. A new algorithm for USING SAMPLE is in the final stages of being developed, and will be available in a future release. I have tested out some of the functionality of this enhancement and it produces significantly more accurate statistics.

In the meantime, I would use forethought on which columns/indexes you apply USING SAMPLE to.
