Which version are you running? Mine is version is 7.0.0 and doesn't seem to include this "focus stealing feature".
In fact I've been running some queries in the background that have completed while I am typing this and my "focus" is in tact :-)
I agree however the "focus stealing" feature is extremely annoying. I have another really cool (non SQL tool) that includes the "focus stealing
feature". When I suggested to the developer that this was a really annoying "feature", I got a "but it is working the way it is designed" type
response. I hope you get a better response from Teradata :-)
