Your example is, strictly speaking, not a self join. If Table A's PI is (dim1,dim2,dim3) or a subset of those columns, it could be "sort of" a self join.

In your example, there is no need for the subquery. Perhaps you made a mistake in "anonymizing" for us?

On what basis do you conclude that it's the OLAP function that is "slow"?
