I wanted to thank all of you for your assistance with this topic. We finally got enough of a persuasion with management to say that there was enough reason to rewrite the 6 minute query that sometimes runs 4 hours, into a 3 second query, that we can't make run any longer than 3 seconds, and send it back through QA/Test.

Unfortunately, I do not have any information as to why two different sessions get different execution paths on 100% identical data/stats/circumstances. I'm hoping to not have to worry about it again (being REALLY hopeful).
