In the current software release there is no way for the optimizer to know that those are empty partitions. So there could be a greater risk of less than optimal query plans associated with a PPI table with lots of empty partitions. With join plans, in particular, you might not get the best plans.

In V2R6.1 you will be able to collect statistics at the partition level, which should make this situation better.
