R6 has hierarchical queries. R5.1 and earlier needs to be manually constructed. without thinking about much I would say using a volatile table to build hierarchy and then joining that to the base table would be a method. a Stored Procedure would be another possibility but I would be careful to avoid a "cursor" type process if there are a lot of rows.
