Can We collect stats on volatile tables?

I am wondering how can we collect stats without an entry in DD, But as per the book titled "teradata SQL UNLEASH THE POWER" by LARKINS and COFFING, We can collect stats on volatile tables using the following Statement.

     create volatile table T1;

     Collect temporary statistics on T1 column(c1).

I tried, but I got an error that we can not run stats on volatile table.

Appreciate your ideas.
