Thanks but we understand the potential benefits. What the manuals don't appear to show is why you would choose MONTH as the interval instead of DAY.

For example if want to select the first month from a table holding 12 months of transactions then using DAY would involve accessing approximately 8.5 per cent of the partitions and using MONTH would access about 8.3 per cent. If, however, you wanted the data for the last 7 days then you would access about 1.9 per cent using DAY but still access 8.3 per cent using MONTH.
