Just a guess:

One tool uses ODBC drivers that have a default date format set to: 'yyyy-mm-dd'

The other one doesn't use ODBC drivers and has a different default date format set to: 'DD-MMM-YYYY'

Try to play with your ODBC settings to see if my guess is right...
