I recall Mike's explanation for this, which I cannot find in the archives right now, so I'll just mention what I believe was the main reason to
keep it as an option. To display >15 digits SQLA must convert DECIMAL to CHAR, so numbers stop being numbers, so to speak. Some users might
still want to do more arithmetic on them, though, and then the option comes in handy.
