If the DATE table is indeed used only to add week IDs to the aggregates and the IDs can be calculated by a formula BCWEEKID=some_function(DATEID), then the aggregation could be done by using the daily_spend only. That would eliminate the join.

I don't know whether this applies to the OP's particular case, though. There might have been a good reason to use the DATE table for some "customized" week definitions which cannot be described by an easy formula.
