1. Low values means less than spaces

2. Nullif works- but we are not supposed to use nullif's and fillers in layout as they increase mainframe CPU time

My current layout

.FIELD  TT_STAT_TYP                  424  DECIMAL(15,0)
        NULLIF TT_STAT_TYP_IND       = '?';
.FIELD  TT_STAT_TYP_IND              432  CHAR(01);

This works !

but i should not have nullif - help me resolve this !
