there are changes to DBC, there is no way to back down without a SYSINT, restore.

What version of V2R5 did you go to? There were some known problems with DBQL and TDQM causing restarts in early versions, but if you went to the latest release, I believe they're resolved. We found V2R5 significantly faster.
