Thanks for all your responses. I raised this question as I am used to Oracle and it was the way Oracle used to work. Finally realized that "ADD_MONTHS is a Teradata extension to the ANSI SQL-99 standard".

There should have been a standard that same named function in different products should behave in the same way!!! :-)
