I am not entirely sure of the consequences of a change made to Teradata in V2R5, but you may of found one of them. Specifically, V2R5 was changed in that a derived table is no longer spooled, by default. It is optimized more as an inline section of code.

A flag was added to the DBS Control record that allows a site to change this back to the way it was prior to V2R5. I suggest that you contact the support center and see if your experience is a result of this change.
