The problem you describe, clustered backups simply stopping, is very similar to ours.

We are on NetVault 6.5.3. Our backups are initiated via a shell script that runs nvjobstart followed by iterations of nvreport to determine run status. Frequently a backup, clustered or full, will die. The arcmain log reports the error "Scheduler exited unexpectedly, abandoning job." The current recommendations we have to fix this are go to 7.0 and/or use nvtrigger.

Will you please tell us what version of NetVault you are running and how you are submitting and tracking your archives.
