The OLDCATALOG option to ARCMAIN may be what you're looking for. Please see the ARC Ref Manual.

Catalog information for all archive jobs will be kept in the one CATALOG table.
You may specify the 'OLDCATALOG' parameter, along with CATALOG, if you want to continue using the previous multi-table
implementation of CATALOG. Also, old catalog tables may still be used during RESTORE or COPY, even if OLDCATALOG is not specified.
ARCMAIN will search for a table with the old naming style, and use it if it exists.
