I would use PMON for no other reason than with the newer PMON you can see the SQL that session is currently performing. If it were an insert, update or some other SQL that could potentially cause a painfull rollback we would not kill it but rather get to work figuring out how long this request will take to complete, and whether it was worth altering their Priority Scheduler settings to decrease their impact on the system while running.

With Gtwglobal you kill the session and hope a big rollback did not just start. You want to avoid rollbacks at all costs.
