Subj:   Re: The size of Volatile Tables

From:   Keith Hammond

I have just copleted writing a job that creates a voltile table containing over 18 million rows, which will be used to populate another permanent table. It takes 45 seconds to create.

While the points about surviving a restart are valid, such issues need to be weighed up against the benefits of volatile tables.

How ofen will we have a restart that will require this job to be re-run at a cost of 45 seconds versus the benefits every time the job is run.

Keith.
