Actually this would be alot easier to do than you think.

There are several ways to reverse engineer a software package such as FastLoad. In reality the only thing you need to understand is the protocol used by FastLoad, and this could easily be found by using a packet sniffer to monitor the communication.

Then once identified, it would be fairly simple to write a FastLoad clone

I would however question why anyone would want to do that, as FastLoad is not expensive.
