Going into the file architecture of the actual data files is a REALLY BAD IDEA!!! Teradata is not like the O virus (Oracle). You do not want to be messing around with the files at all. You don't need to and it will only cause trouble. That being said, the data file are stored on raw disk slices with their own file systems.

Read the manuals on the utilities if you want to learn how to administrate them. You can do all the administrative functions you will ever need to using the utilities.
