From what I have seen so far, the new manner in which the Optimizer is treating derived tables has not been an issue (with the exception of some errors we encountered which should be fixed in the newer releases of V2R5.) The reason we aren't having near as many issues with derived tables as we anticipated (yes, we were skeptical too) is because of the 'Early Group By' and 'Partial Group By' features of V2R5. Without these 2 features, things would have been ugly for us.
