Here's my 2 cents for what it's worth....
Much of the fervor on the part of Teradata fans is associated with whether surrogate keys are necessary in all of the cases where
they're used in other DBMSs rather than whether they have any use whatsoever. I agree with Clay in that there are situations where
they can be a useful performance or data cleansing expedient and as such will find their way into successful Teradata
implementations. The point is that they aren't necessary to avoid any specific performance anomalies associated with the Teradata
DBMS itself.
