You haven't provided many details, but my guess is that BTEQ is not truncating the field as much as it is truncating the record.

There is a WIDTH setting in BTEQ that has default values. When running it on a network host, the default length is around 72 characters and I am probably incorrect here (didn't look it up), but I think the default is 132 on a mainframe.

To adjust this value up to the value you need by doing something like the following:

.width 255

you can view the current setting by doing:

.show control

Give this a try and see if it helps.
