I have fought this too. I have heard that the latest version of Bteq has an export of: textmode. This will retain the spaces/white space.

But, until that day comes you will have to use FastExport.

Format your sql like you want it. Then specify this for the export command:

..EXPORT OUTFILE {file_name} FORMAT TEXT MODE
