I just used your exact comment statement on both a V2R5.0 system and a V2R4.1.3 system and in both cases the full comment was returned by the 'Database Information' report in Teradata Administrator 6.0.

I have never heard of this problem before.

What DBS version are you using.
What version of the ODBC driver are you using?
What session character set are you using?

Has anyone by any chance changed the winddi.def file in the \sql sub directory of your Teradata Administrator install directory? (The reports can be modified by changing this file - one possibility is that someone added '(CHAR(1))' after the CommentStr entry.)
