Eric,

I think you're missing the point. I agree that some data should be kept behind closed doors. Brainstorming in public can make the customer nervous - I know. ;) However, if you look at the Microsoft Knowledge Base ( www.support.microsoft.com/ ) you'll see that all the bug fix database is fully searchable via the web by any customer. It describes the problem, the solution and to what product it applies.

My biggest complaint with the Knowledge Base information is that it's solution centric, e.g. the text tends to describe the final solution and not the symptoms displayed when the problem occurs. That's why I keep mentioning traceback matching for the NCR solution.
