Dieter,

I once believed as you do....that a specific query should return a specific result.

My "examples" were some of our entertaining and frustrating experiences with SQL Server and Oracle, and our observations on how they seem to have different interpretations of OJ processing.

And as you rightly pointed out, it is the order the steps are taken that influences the performance and controls the results of the query.
