The replies have been concentrating on the difference between packages and procedures, but I believe your main concern is whether
or not Teradata has the equivalent of an Oracle function, which can be referenced in a SQL statement. The answer is NO. It sounds
like you're trying to compare Oracle to Teradata and you feel that rewriting your Oracle SQL to eliminate the function will
invalidate your apples to apples comparison. Get used to it because you will probably find more apples to oranges scenarios as your
comparison progresses. Oracle and Teradata are different and you cannot perform a 100% apples to apples comparison.
