Including the DISTINCT clause in a SQL query results in elimination of duplicate rows. The DISTINCT applies to the entire row & not to any single column.

Ex. SELECT DISTINCT a,b,c FROM x;

Here DISTINCT does not mean just "a' being unique, but the combination of a,b & c
