Hi,

We want to add a column to a table which already has rows in it. The new column is a DATE column with a default value of '2002- 10-31'. When we issue this statement:

BTEQ> alter table temp.TABLE_NAME
      add NEW_COLUMN DATE format 'yyyy-mm-dd' default '2002-10-31';

It comes back with an error
'3630 default incompatible type of column NEW_COLUMN'

Can anyone tell me what is wrong with the default value and/or why it doesn't accept that.
