Row-level security within Teradata is implemented using views. Having said that it needn't involve a 'ton' of views -- I've seen views which join to a security table based on UserName and it's the security table which contains all the 'complicated bits'.

Having it implemented within Teradata means that all access -- whether through a BI tool or through a 'power user' tool -- is subject to the same rules.
