Can someone give a Layman's explanation as to why left joins merging between varchar and char columns cause problems in Teradata? My left join problem I posted yesterday seems to have been caused by this varchar/char issue.

We normally don't do joins by columns defined differently but a programmer happened to experience this problem yesterday. I wanted to make our reporting group aware of the issue and also to give them an explanation as to why this causes problems...thus this post.
