Although this topic is covered during the Teradata Performance course, the following is an extract w.r.t. your question:

The Teradata RDBMS tunable parameters and system settings are found in the DBSControl Utility.

DBSControl Utility parameters are grouped into three categories:

* General Group

* File System Group

* Performance Group

When you set the parameters using the DBSControl Utility:

* Some settings are effective immediately

* Others require a database restart

The DBSControl utility will inform you of the effect on the system after you change a field or you can check the reference manual, Teradata DBS for UNIX Support Utilities Reference, BD10-5065.
