Subj:   Re: Data Model with Microstrategy as frontend tool

From:   Dave Sedgwick

Krishna,

When we were trialling various solutions, we did a concept proof with both Microstrategy and Business Objects as front end OLAP solutions. Performance was less that satisfactory when we worked relationally, not pure 3NF but not far off. This was 1998 and Microstrategy 5.n v Business Objects 4.n to give you some context. In the end we settled on Business Objects although either would have done the job for us.

To get reasonable performance we have had to radically restructure the data into a more usual star (ish!) schema but we would have had to do that with Microstrategy as well.

I too would be very interested(and amazed!) in views from anyone who has got either one but especially BO running on a Teradata 3NF structure with reasonable performance.

Dave
