To expand on the dif between network and mainframe.

1 - on Unix type systems each record ends with a CR (hex 0A).

2 - on Windoze each record ends with a CRLF (hex 0A0D).

So if you are running on Windoze be sure to specify char(2) for the newline, wheras on Unix you should specify char(1) for the newline.
