This won't always work. If the 'date' (in your example) is right at the end of a month (i.e. 31st January) then adding 31 may take you past the next month (i.e. you'll end up in March and not February). It is much safer to go back to the first of the current month and then us the ADD_MONTHS function to add a single month.
