Subj:   Re: Access logging and utilities

From:   David Hough

Remember that there is an overhead associated with logging, both in execution time and disk space. Make sure that DBC has *lots* of extra space when you start monitoring, and then make sure you don't run out while you are monitoring.

We log all denials regardless of statement type and all DDL statements regardless of result. We keep 90 days worth of data or about 300Meg worth of space. The one time we turned on logging for everything (tracking a problem), we chewed up about 1Gig/day and we quickly throttled back.
