I have worked with both GQL and BO with Teradata for a few years. Here is a brief on what I have seen. This is not a full
review.
GQL - Good simple UI, UI can be customized more than BO, first time users like it, more experienced users often want more power
than what it offers. Easy for designer to develop the "Model" within it, "Model" capability medium capabilities., writes reasonably
good SQL for Teradata. Recent version much improved web user interface and server requirements.
BO - Simple user interface based on folders and objects, very little customization of user interface possible. Any real UI
changes requires a VB like front end. First time users find it difficult to locate objects in the classes (Folders). More
experience users like the extra function BO offers over GQL. The designer creates a "Universe" and it is much more difficult than
GQL to do. 3-4 Times more effort. It is very easy to create a BO universe that doesn't use the power of Teradata. Universe however
does have a lot more tricks you can do over GQL. SQL generated varies much more than GQL due to structure of the designed universe.
Newest version has improved web interface.
