Subj:   Re: Time Dimension Table

From:   Barbara George

Our calendar table is often used, although in a business environment.

The types of data we hold are:

date - each day since we started collecting data, and for a few years in advance of today

day name - Monday to Sunday

day number - 1 to 7 (for sorting groups of days by day of week)

weekend flag

public holiday flag

month number & name

year (can also be extracted from the date)

week-end, month-end, year end dates

quarter number (Jan to March = 1st quarter)

financial period (accounting months)

Using this table it is possible for us to group our data (almost!) any way the users would like to see it.

Obviously, the academic requirements will be different.
