I have worked on a TD system that was EMC that we used the UNIX diskjoin to add more space to the system without adding nodes. It
did not require a reconfig as we were adding more pdisk instead of more vamps. The problem of adding space without additional
horsepower is that TD is scaleable downward as well as upward. Double the amount of space without changing the number of nodes and
you double the query times, in general. I have never met a user who would agree that increasing their query times to save some money
was a good idea. The cost of the DASD is over half the cost of a system, so in my opinion, it is penny wise and pound foolish to add
space without increasing the horsepower.
