It's been a while since I have had the chance to use this, so it may not still work, but - I've found in the past that when you must kill an MVS job, there is a safe way to prevent ghost sessions. From the MVS console you would enter:

     F TDPx, LOGOFF JOB jobname

where x is the TDPID

Hope that helps in the future. It won't help you out this time though.
