We have noticed a significant variation in performance throughput when performing an archive on our system. We currently have a
12 Node 5200 connected to a StorageTek Silo. The silo contains 6 tape drives, one per cabinet.
When Teradata utilization is above 85% busy, drive throughput decreases to about .5 MB/sec/drive. However, when the system is
below 50% busy, we see drive throughput is about 6.5 MB/sec/drive.
Has anyone else seen this type of fluctuation in throughput? If so, does anyone have any suggestions about how to reduce the
variability? Or at least explain why this is happening? We have some ideas, but we are still investigating. Obviously, we would
like to see the higher throughput all the time.
