I don't use SAS on mainframe, but use PC Windows based SAS with an ODBC connection to Teradata. Using SAS to submit the SQL to Teradata and retrieve the data back as SAS data sets is very productive. Also, SAS users can take advantage of the SAS macro language to construct queries that are dynamic and with much less coding, I've found.
