Trying to stretch a pound by going from RAID 1 to RAID 5 is as the saying goes, penny wise and pound foolish. The time, effort and cost required to do this will probably just about equal what it would cost you to add a number of nodes with their associated space (as 5150 nodes are probably available used). You would have a faster system with additional space Vs. a slower system by going from RAID 1 to RAID 5.
