To help keep Teradata Forum posts professional and on-topic, the following guidelines have been provided. As a member, your posts
are expected to comply with these guidelines. There may be some repetition, but it's because those points are important.
Posts which fall outside of the guidelines may be rejected with an explanation - or simply discarded, depending on the situation
and the workload of the List Administrator. If in doubt, contact the
List Administrator before posting.
General Considerations
You must be a member of the Teradata Forum to post.
Please check the manuals and the Teradata Forum Archives before sending your post. If your post is too general,
explained in the documentation or has been previously addressed and can be found in the Archives, your note may be rejected.
Make the Subject Tag relevant and specific to your post. Please don't change the original Subject Tag (it affects
Archive grouping). If you're starting a new thread, please don't piggyback on an existing thread. Posts with blank or inaccurate
Subject Tags will be discarded without an explanation.
Please trim your replies. Unless you are responding to a specific point, it's best to simply delete the original note
from your post.
Use professional language, avoid slang and acronyms. It will help to minimize confusion and improve your chances of
receiving a response.
Although discussions will naturally bring disagreement, show respect for others by keeping your posts civil. Please
make rebuttals in a mature and professional manner. Remember that disagreements result from different opinions and if an opinion
upsets you, take time to cool-off before responding. Keep private conflicts private.
Try to include the information that will help people to give you an answer. For example, if you are experiencing a
performance problem, then provide the details of your problem:
- Include version information - the problem could be related to your release.
- If there is SQL involved, include it. If relevant, include Table and Views definitions as well. What about the
EXPLAIN? If it seems that it might be needed (and it probably will be), then go ahead and include it in your post.
- Try to include data demographic information: row counts, whether statistics have been collected, etc.
- What are the performance expectations?
Before sending, re-read your post. Will a stranger understand your note? If not, you have more work to do.
Don't post RTFM-type responses: The Original Poster may not have access to the manuals or to the internet.
If you are not willing to help others in solving their problem, then please don't post.
If you did not receive a response, do not simply re-post your note (it will be rejected).
If your post wasn't answered, it's most likely because it was not specific enough, it didn't contain enough
information, it was not clear, already in the archives or it can be found in the documentation. If you don't receive a response,
then re-write your note with more information and make sure that your questions/points are clear.
Keep in mind that the Teradata Forum is not a free consulting service. It's a community of people who are willing to
help others and share information about the Teradata database - please be sure to appreciate and respect their generosity. Abusing
that generosity can result in permanent removal.
The Teradata Forum (and its owner) is not responsible for postings sent to the Forum. Legal and contractual
obligations remain with the sender.
Anomy.Anom Posts
Anomy.Anom is our anonymous poster. This feature was created to encourage members to speak-up - but a posting which is
inflammatory, off-topic or otherwise inappropriate for the Teradata Forum will be edited, censored or rejected.
The way that Anomy Anom works is that you send a post to Anomy's address. Anomy (actually the List Administrator) will
review the note and remove any identifying information. Please help by limiting the amount of identifying information you place in
your post, after all, scrubbing the note is a manual process and mistakes can happen. The resulting note will then be forwarded to
the List. The original note will be discarded.
Keep in mind that Anomy Anom will process your note as time permits.
The Promotion or Recommendation of Products or Services
Postings that contain marketing, solicitation or promotional material for products/services are not welcome on the
Teradata Forum and should not be sent. Although it's understood that you're trying to help, please don't suggest or recommend
products/services.
However, given the audience of this Forum, some people will insist on violating the Rules of Conduct by touting their
product or services. A policy has been adopted where people who feel that they must send such a note to the Teradata Forum will be
charged for their post. The rate has been set at $1.35 USD per subscriber, per posting. This is a real debt
that is expected to be paid promptly, if not paid it will be turned-over to a collection agency for resolution.
If you feel that the answer to a Forum question requires that a product or service be mentioned, then contact the
List Administrator for review and forwarding to the Forum. If you post to the
Forum first and ask later, you run the risk of being billed.
The best way to avoid accidental charges is to avoid posting notes that could be interpreted as promoting or marketing
a product or service. Responsibility of a post is with the sender.
At the same time, please don't post questions which ask for product/service recommendations - effectively you are
asking a question which nobody should answer. Such notes will be rejected.
Sending an Attachment
Attachments can not be sent to the Teradata Forum (they will be stripped from your post). If you have an attachment
that you would like to include with your post, please forward it to the
List Administrator. The List Administrator will move your attachment to the
website and then send you a note when the attachment is ready for reference.
Making Announcements on the Teradata Forum
It is possible to make announcements of general interest to the Teradata Forum. Typical announcements might be a
conference call, a call for beta testers, the distribution of freeware, etc. For an announcement to be made, it must be without cost
and open to all members of the Teradata Forum.
When calling for beta testers, a single post (per product) announcing the beta-program will be permitted. A second
post notifying people that the beta test program has ended will be permitted. Once again, the beta program must be free of charge
and open to all members of the Teradata Forum.
If you would like to make an announcement to the Teradata Forum, please send that announcement to the
List Administrator
for review. If necessary, we'll work with you on wording and content and when ready, the announcement will be sent to the Forum by
the List Administrator.
If you choose to send an announcement directly to the Teradata Forum without the prior approval of the
List Administrator, then the post may be treated as billable.
Employment/Job Offerings
Do not post Employment or Job Offerings on the Teradata Forum.
SPAM and Challenge/Response Systems
The automation of the Teradata Forum is not equipped to respond to Challenge/Response-type antispam software.
If mail sent to you bounces with a challenge, then your membership will be dropped.
If you feel that you received SPAM as a result of being a member of the Teradata Forum, please contact the
List Administrator. The Teradata Forum protects the information about our
individual members and that information will never be shared or sold to a third-party - please see our
Privacy Statement for details.
Be aware of the image you create
A final point: The Teradata Forum archives are open to the public and everybody has access to your posts. You should
consider the impression that you are leaving with the people who read your posts. Consider a future employer trying a Google of
"your name teradata". It's hard to claim mastery if your web presence argues otherwise.
